Note from lisa: I LOVE LOVE LOVE this book.  I just hinted on some things here because it was only a ½ hour talk on facts.  There is a spiritual side which I feel is very important too.

Except for acute trauma this system fails

Docs taught surgical and pharmaceutical treatment of diseases – very little about prevention  
Pharmceutical companies sponsor research and a lot of the CEU’s earned at conferences

Catch disease “early”…..ok how about some PREVENTION here!!!!

“to lengthen your life, shorten your meals” (keep body weight healthy)

PREVENTION
Think of fruits and veggies as natural chemotherapy
1. low fat high fiber
2. high antioxidants and vit
3. fewer cals than most processed foods or high fat animal foods

CARETENOIDS- orange foods (but not always…dark green color is dominant and when something is fresh and blooming you see the green only ……maple trees story).    Dark green leafy’s have caretenoids too
Lyopene- tomato

FLAVOINODS- dark green leafys

INDOLE-3-CARBINOL  (IC3)
Cruciferous-
Bitter cress, bok choy, broc, brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, collards, kale, radish, rutabaga, turnip, watercress

Help by:
1. stop Breast Cancer cells from growing and shutting off a key enzyme necessary for cells to grow
2. interferes with estrogen – estrogen receptor reactions “dampen flames to a flicker slowing down cell division”
3. acts as a tumor suppression gene to DNA
4. blocks receptors
5. stops cell growh
6. prevents initiation of tumor growth
7. dissuades growth of new vessels into tumors  ….76%

BROCCOLI-
Sulforaphane- stop cancer by destroying carcinogens in our body.  Impedes spread of tumor

d-glucaric acid- APPLES, ORANGES, GRAPEFRUIT
helps strengthen the bodies natural defenses against toxins.
Deactivates them

FIBER- soluble…..beans, white part of citrus, etc
Powerful deactivator of carcinogens in colon.  Think of it as a BOMB SQUAD in our colon

Insoluble- bulk  WATER!!!! Bind with bad estrogens, and potential enemies and get it out!  In toilet where they belong!!
LIGNANS- fibers this is what gives plants their stiffness

FATS-
SAT- animal products….STOREHOUSE for concentrated toxic chemicals such as pesticides, hormones.  Some mimic estrogen and make cell divisions in breast speed up rapidly

Look for Non growth hormone dairy products
Growth hormone- insulin like growth factor IGF- it’s like “ROCKET FUEL”-   carrying around too much body fat releases this too.

TRANS fat- promote oxidation..  LABELS..may say 0 under trans fat because anything <.5 can be rounded to 0. check ingredients for hydrogenated/partially hydrogenated…this means TRANS   also increase inflammation/heart disease, believed to be even worse than sat fat.

OMEGA 3’s- decrease power of estrogen in Breast CA so cells don’t divide as quickly
1. disrupt key enzymes necessary for B CA tumors to grow
2. stop tumor cells from sticking together
3. prevent migration or spreading of tumor cells to other areas
4. cause cell death
5. stop new blood vessels from growing into tumors
6. works synergistically with some chemo agents- doxorubicin and taxan

CLA- conjucated linoleic acid
GLA- gamma linolenic acid- evening primrose, borage seed oil, black current seed oil

SOY-  phytoestrogen.  No where near the strength not the same as HRT and BC pills

Non- gmo-----whole foods
Steamed edamame
Dry roasted soy beans
Tempeh
Tofu
miso

this is not MF “parm ranch chick patties”

studies with genestein…active component in soy…it was isolated and not in full form of the whole food and wreaked havoc.

OTHERS
GREEN TEA
TURMERIC- yellow curry. 
Break fown toxins and prevent carcinogens from forming
Aids in digestion- increase stomach secretion and decrease gas produced in intestines

GARLIC
Multi vitamins

TOXINS-
All the pesticides- TONS of interesting stuff in the book
Sugars- increase insulin, increase risk of B Ca

ALCOHOL-  In-“TOXIC”-ate 
Think of it as kryptonite to superman.  Loses powers

HOW?  Alcohol causes increases of estrogen in blood AND release or the hormone prolactin which both speed up cell division. 
2 drinks 22-70 increase risk
3 drinks 33-70 increase
